Queensland Early Motorcycle Sports Club - Ordinary Meeting 347
13 Oct 09
Discussion Points
- Not enough interest from members in next February’s historic events in NZ to warrant further follow up.
- Rob Walker to follow up with letter to Motorcycle Sportsmen of Qld thanking them for their efforts & congratulating them on the success of the 2009 Aust Historic Champs at Morgan Park.
- No response received from Morgan Park Drag Strip yet but if a QEMSC drag meet is to happen we will be looking at early November.
- Tony Jacobs reported that the Esk Motorsport proposal is not over, the objections have been appealed by the developers.
- Combined X’mas function with M/C Sportsmen looks like being 21st Nov at their new club rooms at Nudgee.
- John Downs – tried to encourage members’ involvement in Qld Road Race Championships 24/25 October – closing 14th Oct 09. M/C Sportsmen have promised “historic” racing events if there are enough entries. Ian Milton suggested that we have good relations with M/C Sportsmen & perhaps the Road Race committee needs to liaise with M/C Sportsmen regarding QEMSC members supporting certain nominated meetings to ensure support of “historic” events.
- Report on Shannon’s Classic Speed Fest at Lakeside from John Munns. Approx 20 bike riders were made very welcome to a fun event. Machinery competing was spectacular – full encouragement was given to all competitors from the enthusiastic crowd. Ian Milton has offered to liaise with organisers about future events & any potential noise issues.
- Favourable report on Qld Road racing Forum at Aust M/C Museum, 3rd & 4th Oct by John Munns & Bernie Summers. One agenda item that Historic events be promoted as a “feeder” for young & older road racing beginners was discussed favourably.
- Rob Walker has applied for grants under The Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs/2009 Volunteer Grants Program.
- Ray Clacker reported on the success of the M/C Sportsmen’s/ QEMSC sponsored’ Australian Historic Champs event; looks like making M/C Sportsmen a reasonable profit - final finances yet to be evaluated. Good crowd – the best yet at Morgan Park, according to a contented caretaker, Bill Coleman.
